PROJECT 1 (A)

SITE ANALYSIS & DESIGN RESPONSE

For project 1(a), it is a group project working among our tutorial group. In this project, we conducted a site visit to Kebun P3KU to identify the physical as well as the intangible qualities that shape the character of the site.

ā€‹

There students are required to engage with the site users to be able to establish the needs of the community at site.

ā€‹

After establishing a Design Response of the Site Analysis, students will then work within the group to draw up a new plan for the demarcated site area through the design of Kebun Komuniti Plan, which would also serve as the base for Project 1(B) : Architectural Allotment and Project 2 : P3KU Kebun Komuniti Center.

REFLECTION

Upon completing this group project, I've gained a better understanding of Kebun P3KU and the selected site. It was a very fun and fulfilling experience to be able to gain knowledge about the surrounding area and what's needed to accommodate to the community there since the purpose of the Kebun is to be able to foster independence among the disabled teenagers who are the workers on site.

ā€‹

From this project, I was able to gain 2 TGCS which are:

ā€‹ā€‹

  • Communication skills

- I was able to improve my communication skills by having a lot of discussions and exchanging ideas with my group members.

ā€‹

  • Thinking and problem-solving skills

- During this project we also encountered some difficulties and change of ideas along the way especially after interim presentation upon given feedbacks from other tutors. But, we manage to solve the problem by discussing it together and eventually we were able to have the results that we were satisfied with.

PROJECT 1 (B)

ARCHITECTURAL ALLOTMENT

For this project, it is also a group project consists of a smaller number of students (3-4 students per group). For this project, students are required to design an Architectural Allotment that are meant to fit into the tutorial group's Kebun Komuniti Plan.

ā€‹

The structure is meant to serve as a small structure to grow plants with the integration of seating, shelter, and storage.

ā€‹

The plants chosen are also to be the be the type of plants that had already grown on site or are considered as part of the expansion of P3KU Urban Farm.

REFLECTION

For this small group project, I was able to gain more knowledge and understanding on what architectural allotment is. I was able to explore different ideas of architectural allotment that would suit best for our group project.

ā€‹

We were able to create an allotment that does not only have an interesting physical appearance, but it also work as a moving mechanism that helps the worker to have an easy method of attending to the plants that are in the allotment.

ā€‹

Overall, the whole experience was definitely challenging but I'm glad that we were able to design an allotment that are both interesting and functional.

ā€‹

From this project, I was able to gain 2 TGCS which are:

ā€‹

  • Lifelong learning

- Through this project, I was able to get out of my comfort zone and explore more on different design of architectural allotments that are different from the convenient allotment design. Through this, I was able to gain lifelong learning that could help in my future design.

ā€‹

  • Interpersonal skills

- Through working with this group, I was able to understand a better team dynamic which helps in obtaining a great outcome for our final design of this project.

PROJECT 2

P3KU KEBUN KOMUNITI CENTER

For this project, it is an individual project that calls for the design of a P3KU Kebun Komuniti Center within the Kebun Komuniti Plan proposed for P3KU Urban Farm in USJ18 Park.

ā€‹

Students were required to provide full design proposals incorporating findings from site analysis and precedent studies. Besides that, students were also required to generate narratives that respond to the environment and community within the given context and explore environmental poetics of building enclosure's design solutions that reduce environmental impact utilizing various complex typologies of spatial organizations and a variety of passive strategies for sustainable design.

REFLECTION

Completing the final project was a tough and fulfilling experience. Through this project, I was able to learn the importance of sustainability in architectural design and how I can implement it towards my own project.

ā€‹

Being able to explore various ideas and discussing them with my tutors was very fun and I'm glad that I was able to implement the feedbacks that was given into my own project as well.

ā€‹

From this project, I was able to gain 2 TGCS which are:

ā€‹

  • Communication skills

- This project requires a lot of discussions and asking for feedbacks from other people. Upon completing this project, I'm glad that I was able to improve my communication skills as well whenever I ask for feedbacks from my tutors, my friends and even the crits during my final presentation day.

ā€‹

All of the feedbacks and comments given helped me a lot in improving my design and I hope through this, I am also able to improve more of my communication skills as well as boosts my confidence skills in the future.

ā€‹

  • Discipline specific knowledge

- Throughout this project, I also did a lot of research on the design of my building especially sustainability and how I can incorporate them inside my building.

ā€‹

Though I faced some challenges along the way and kept on changing my ideas and design, I'm glad that I was able to understand the issues that I'm facing and overcome the problems eventually.

OVERALL REFLECTION

Overall, this module had been a fulfilling and enjoying moment for me throughout this whole semester.

Although Architecture Studio IV was a very challenging module, I had a lot of fun and knowledgeable experience as well.

ā€‹

I get to explore a lot more of my ideas especially on sustainable design and get to get out of my comfort zone when doing my project.

ā€‹

I'm also grateful for my tutor Ms Alina, who had helped me a lot in giving me feedbacks and ideas on how to improve my design further. With this, I hope that I am able to improve my design better for my future projects to come.
